January 2015

New Years
We arrived safely to Randie and Sherri's apartment on New Years Eve. It was great to be off the road and in the comfort of family. We spent the evening doing a little christmas present opening, playing games, and enjoying each others company. We are so thankful to have family to stay with and help during this transitional period. It is still crazy to be bring in the New Year in Utah. We thought when we left Utah we would never come back. It is funny how life can be so unpredictable.

Home problems
When we signed the lease for our home, we agreed that we would move in by the 1st of January. Logan and the guys moved all our stuff into the house. Unfortunately, the kitchen was torn apart and the newly refinished basement was being repaired. A few days after finishing the basement they discovered the sink in the kitchen had leaked causing damage to the kitchen floor, and the basement. The landlord decided to take this unfortunate event and do some updating. They updated the laminate flooring with titling and update the kitchen counters with granite. All our stuff was in the house but the house was not livable to have a pregnant women inhaling fumes and a toddler who wants to touch everything. So Randie and Sherri graciously let us continue to stay with them until our place became livable.

Extreme sickness
I had been extremely blessed since moving out that my vomiting had become much more manageable. I still felt miserably nauseated most of the time but at least I was able to keep food down and begin to gain weight. Well the vomiting decided to return with vengeance and for more than 48 hours I was unable to keep any food or liquids down. All the other times, I have been able to keep at least liquids down so I was never too scared for the baby. Logan convinced me that I needed to go to the hospital and get some help. The whole trip to the ER every bump we hit I threw up. The ER doctor gave me medication through an IV and gave me two bags of IV fluid and also ran some test to make sure baby and I were ok. They had a hard time getting the IV in my arm since I was so dehydrated. Before leaving I was able to keep sprite and crackers down and felt much better, exhausted but much better. The ER doctor was an old gentlemen who had never seen anything like this before and said I needed to go see the obgyn as soon as possible to make sure the baby was growing properly.

I thought the worse was over but then I caught the flu that Logan had a few days earlier. Soon after I began to recover from the flu, Connor and Sherri caught it next. Connor had been sleeping in the living room, but I felt that he needed to be close to us. We made a cot of blankets next to the bed for Connor to sleep on. Before going to sleep gave him some tylenol and checked his temperature which read 99 degrees. In the middle of the night I heard him say "water" but I thought he was just sleep talking. A few minutes later Logan and I were awoken to the sound of a shaky voice saying, "NO! NO! NO!". Immediately turned on the lights and find Connor shaking uncontrollably. I grab him and he was burning hot. Rip off his clothes and tell Logan to get a wet washcloth. His eyes were rolling back in his head and he was not responsive. Logan took his temperature it was 104 degrees. I felt so helpless and did not know what to do. Sherri and Randie were awoken with the noise and called 911. Sherri experienced this happen to her other grandson, Cameron, when he was a toddler. She directed us to lay him on the floor and turn his head to the side so he didn't choke on his saliva. The paramedics arrived and gave him oxygen and took some vitals and said either they could take him to the emergency room or we could. Connor started to be a little responsive on the way to the hospital. I thought I was going to loose him. Connor not being in my life flashed through my head and I just couldn't handle ever loosing him.  The doctor and nurse informed us that Connor had suffered an febrile seizure and that it is actual common for children, and happens when a fever spikes. They taught us a method of alternating with tylenol and motrin to keep his fever down. After monitoring him for a few hours we were sent home. I never thought fevers where a scary thing and thought that it was just a sign that the body was fighting to fix itself. Looks like when Connor gets sick I will be up all night worrying and checking on him. Such a scary experience to have gone through, but glad to know he is fine.

Pregnancy
The one benefit of my ER visit was that I was able to get recommendations from the nurses of who to choose as a midwife.  It was refreshing to find my midwife, Stacie Carter, who is laid back and takes as much time as needed to address concerns and questions. The first meeting with her I was 17 weeks pregnant and she pulled me into the ultrasound room and did an ultrasound just because she wanted to see how the baby was doing.  We loved seeing the baby bounce around the screen and to be doing so well even though I felt so miserable. She was even able to tell us early that the baby was a boy! Logan was super ecstatic to have another guy to add to his man club. Honestly, I was disappointed because that means if I want a girl to join our family I have to endure another pregnancy.
Stacie scheduled a 20 week ultrasound with the ultrasound technician to check more in-depth on how baby was developing. I was nervous on what the ultrasound would find since I was taking Zofran religiously everyday to help control my vomiting. With Connor I only took the medication on the days that I needed. I have found that taking the medication everyday has helped tremendously most days. My midwife told me it was better for me to take the medication so I could get the nutrients needed for the baby than to not take it and not be able to eat, therefore depriving the baby of needed nutrients. I've decided to actually trust and listen to a doctor and am doing exactly what she is advising.

Finally move into our first home
January 21st we all finally staying in our home together as a family. It was weird having so much space and not be cramped together like we were in all the years of living in an apartment. I think this house is going to be the perfect size for our little family. Now when family comes to visit they will actually have their own room and bathroom instead of having to share with Connor.
The house is 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, 1800 square feet with a garage and backyard. I am excited to know that we will be settled in one place for at least 2 years, this will be the longest we have ever lived in one place since we've been married.
